Frequently Asked Questions
We get countless sea-mails every day with so many questions; and they are often very similar. Here are some of the ones we get the most. Hopefully your question is answered here!
Are you real mermaids?
Well we are real and we are mermaids. Are you a real human? ;)
But I saw you at the shops the other day...
Just like Ariel we can grow legs when we need to ;) ;)
Where will your next appearance be?
After much thought and due to safety reasons and overcrowding at past appearances we have decided not to pre-announce our pop-ups any more than a few hours ahead. It makes us sad that we can’t tell you all where we are going to be so you can plan ahead but also brings a bit more mystery and magic to when we do secretly pop up!
We are making an effort to get involved with as many festivals and councils as we can so we can bring you some safe mermaid joy! We will announce these appearances in advance on our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts (see below).
If you are eager to have us pop up for a specific event, occasion, place or time please consider booking us privately.
Do you do birthday parties?
Yes we do a very limited number of birthday parties. They can be at the beach, in your backyard pool or event at a community pool. Please contact us with your suburb, a rough idea of a date and what sort of party you are interested in at perthmermaids@gmail.com
Please do not be offended if we can’t fit your event in. We juggle our legged lives with our tailed lives so it is important to us to keep a balance!
Can you appear at *insert specific beach here*? What beaches do you frequent?
We love finding new places to pop up at but there are some beaches that are better for mermaids than others. The best beaches for a mermaid appearance are those that have reliably calmer and safer water with somewhere nearby for us to transform!
Some of our favourites include:
Hillarys Boat Harbour, Yanchep Lagoon, South Beach Freo, Bathers Beach Freo, Palm Beach Rockingham.
You should/can you appear at *insert specific festival, event, museum, aquarium, waterpark here*?
We have started getting lots of questions about why we haven’t turned up at certain events. We would absolutely love to pop up at all of these places but unfortunately it isn’t up to us! So if you would like to see us somewhere put in a good word for us! And if you know of events coming up that you think we would be great for let us know!
Can I be a mermaid?
Anyone can be a mermaid if they have enough imagination and passion!
But please remember that swimming with a tail can be very dangerous both for you and those around you (mermaids tend to attract people into the water with them!). We are both very experienced with what we do and take safety very seriously so please never swim alone and be careful with those around you. The ocean can be particularly dangerous so keep that in mind!
Can I join you?
Our mermaid adventures are a labour of love, friendship, art and passion for us both at the moment. It is a personal project that we treasure together. We love being connected to the community and seeing other mermaids on their journeys but we are not looking to ‘hire’ anyone anytime soon. We are content as a perfoming duo at this time.
Can I swim with you?
We love meeting other mermaids but at this moment in time we are so busy that we hardly get to swim with each other! Keep an eye out for us at events!
Can you show me how to be a mermaid?
We are looking into the possibility of mermaid classes in the future but not at this moment in time. Once again there is so much information online if you are interested in learning! But remember to be safe!
Where did you get your tails, how much did they cost, what are they made from?
Our current silicone tails are from Finfolk Productions. All of the info can be found a twww.facebook.com/finfolkproductions.
Our old fabric tails were made and designed by us!
Our tops and accessories are mostly made and designed by the two of us.
Do you make/sell silicone tails or fabric tails?
No we do not make silicone tails.
We are currently working on a fabric tail line with Syrena: Singapore's First Mermaid. Watch this space!
How do I make a fabric tail?
If you would like to learn how to make one yourself you can find lots of information at mernetwork.com and online in general.
Do you have instagram/flikr/youtube?
Yes!
